Whatever You Do for Valeria, You Do For Me

Pursuit of liberty and happiness;
To some, may be, a plethora of empty talks!!
So empty and void of empathy--
Collective conscience even doesn't hurt;
Doesn't even get needled with a heart-breaking photo,
A photo of two lifeless bodies--
Tiny right hand of two-year-old Valeria;
Tender soft right hand wrapping around--
With all the affection and love--
Lifeless neck of her father, Oscar Alberto Martinez Ramirez.

Father and daughter reached their destiny--
Northern bank of Rio Grande and
American City of Brownsville--
Land of their dream and, like millions before them;
Even in death, if not in life.
Valeria to the eyes of many---
And I mean many--
Is "anchor baby",
May be a more politically correct word of "illegal"--
Label her a Salvadoran "undocumented" baby--
But to the eyes of conscience,
whatever you do for Valeria,
"You do for me".
